A Big Sloppy One!

And suddenly it came, unannounced. I am so happy the moment got captured on camera.

Holi hai!

K enjoyed her first holi at my mum-in-law's house with a lot of food she could not eat, colours she could not put and water she was not allowed to play with. It was fun!

Strange things happen to me. A decade after I quit Deccan Herald and journalism, I find myself on a Deccan Herald corporate cup. It could only mean two things: I was a stalwart journalist or someone had a crush on me. Either way, I am flattered.

K is crushing on this fellow. When she thought no one was looking, she went and gave him one big kiss.
Now like a good mom, I am working on my list of 100 reasons I disapprove of this boy.

Her Yell face
At eleven months, K can say her 'Hi' really well. She has picked up a few ways of doing that - from a charming sing song tune to a shy whisper to, well, her favorite - a big loud yell. She has saved the sing song version to close family and friends, the shy whisper when I show her off to guests, but the yell is for every stranger on the street.
It is interesting to watch the reactions: in the gated community where my mom lives, our stranger-neighbors look past her without a hint of interest. On the road, stuck in traffic jams, auto and taxi drivers chuckle back. In my neighbourhood stores, the staff have begun recognizing her and snatch her away the minute we enter - giving me some respite. Young kids try to chat with her; babies look clueless but their mothers overestimate her age, and old people often sternly stare back. As for me, I am rather embarrassed with her calls for attention, and I put on what my running partner L calls it a 'bitch face', to disassociate myself from the proceedings.

She has also started to walk, but often her speed doesn't match her balancing skills and there have been a few mishaps. She clearly enjoys her new found independence, and so Rami and I had to spend last Sunday putting all the glassware and breakable stuff in the loft where it will remain for years.
