Mysore Hangout: Sand Sculpture Museum

Some weeks ago, in Mysore on work, we found time to peek into M N Gowri's Sand Sculpture Museum near the Mysore Zoo. It came much recommended by Conscience Keeper who had been there once. The sand sculptures were beautiful and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was created by a rather young woman. Gowri quit her engineering course to pursue a career in sand sculpture - and being a sibling of a self-taught artist, I can appreciate what a strong-willed leap of faith that would have been. In four months, she created these divine sand art - all 150 of them, using 115 truckloads of sand!
The museum turned out to be smaller than I had imagined, but it made for a perfect quick hop between all the tiring touristy things we were doing in Mysore. The museum is open all days between 8 am and 6.30 pm, and has a nominal entry fee of Rs 20-40.
